Be Better Hospitality Expands with Bittersweet, a New Coffee and Deli Concept Coming to the Landing

Be Better Hospitality, the team behind Fort Wayne establishments Penny Drip, Dana’s, Night Train, and Blue Bottle, will be launching its newest concept, Bittersweet, in late summer 2025. The coffee shop and cold-cut deli will open at 118 W Columbia Street, currently home to Utopian Coffee + Kitchen, which Bittersweet will occupy once the current lease ends.
Inspired by classic New York City Jewish deli traditions, Bittersweet will offer a modern take on classic deli fare. The menu will feature a morning selection of pastries, a thoughtfully crafted coffee program available throughout the day, and stacked sandwiches on house-made bread served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We wanted Bittersweet to feel inviting and full of personality, a place where simplicity and creativity come together naturally,” said Trevor Scovel, co-founder and president of Be Better Hospitality. “We’re creating the kind of place we’d want to hang out at ourselves. It’s approachable, full of energy, and rooted in the same quality and intention we’ve built with Penny Drip.”
Sandwiches will be wrapped in signature butcher paper and served from a counter at the rear of the shop. Guests can expect a welcoming atmosphere with pastel and neutral tones designed to reflect Bittersweet’s fresh and high-energy identity.
The concept supports Be Better Hospitality’s mission of Serving With Purpose—creating spaces that foster connection, elevate everyday experiences, and contribute meaningfully to the Fort Wayne community.
