Snider Grad Awarded AKA Scholarship

Paietyn Gilbert has been awarded the 2020 Sharon K. Grimes Memorial Scholarship from Fort Wayne chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Gilbert is a graduate of Snider High School and currently a student at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA, double majoring in psychology and pre-medicine. She is pursuing a career in counseling and psychiatry.

Paietyn intentionally chose to attend a Historically Black College and University because, “There is nothing like it!”

Each year, the professional women of the Iota Chi Omega chapter award the Sharon K. Grimes Memorial Scholarship to a deserving young woman of African descent, residing in the local area.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. Founded in 1908, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and to encourage high scholastic and ethical standards.
