On the Summit’s Horizon: Romeo Morris

“Romeo Morris, Local Financial Advisor for Edward Jones and a community leader is definitely on the Summit’s Horizon.

Morris has been making his presence known throughout the city now that he has returned to his hometown. As a young adult he has found his niche in servant leadership. However, he is no stranger to being involved in a variety of activities and organizations.

As an all-around athlete at South Side High School, he was also a member of the Show Choir. I am not going to allow anyone to limit me.” said, Morris. That same determination lead Morris to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Morehouse, he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The decision to become a Kappa was made after doing his own independent research where he learned that the organization was founded at Indiana University in 1911 and that Pi Chapter at Morehouse was the first chapter seated below the Mason-Dixon Line. “I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. Achievement in every field of Human Endeavor. The Fort Wayne Alumni Chapter gave me my first scholarship. As a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, he joins the ranks of prominent African-Americans such as Gospel Music Artist, Pastor Marvin Sapp, Professional Athlete Colin Kaepernick and Actor/Comedian Cedric the Entertainer as well as the late filmmaker John Singleton and world-renowned attorney Johnnie Cochran.

When Morris returned to the Summit City he got involved with the Fort Wayne Urban League Young Professionals. He is currently a board member of the Indiana Black Expo (Fort Wayne Chapter).

“I am so proud of Romeo’s growth over the last few years. He has always possessed that “it” factor. He has phenomenal potential and will no doubt be a major leader in our community. His thirst for knowledge and his determination to make a difference is rewarding to witness.” Said, Joe Jordan, President of the Indiana Black Expo Fort Wayne (IBEFW) and President/CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne.

In addition to the Black Expo, Morris is a member of the Three Rivers Festival and Fort Wayne Dance Collective Boards. “I am honored to be in the room with seasoned individuals”. When asked about the best-practices of mentoring the younger generation, Morris responded by sharing, “let the young person show themselves approved and water his or her plant.”

“He’s always willing to go the extra mile to assist and enhance the mission and the purpose of other IBEFW initiatives. Great team player and willing to take the lead. We are very blessed to have Romeo as a member,” said Jordan.

Morris earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Political Science in December of 2019. He was initially inspired by the 43rd President of the United States Barack Obama to pursue a career in Politics. However, he has recently pivoted his career focus to Financial Management.

Despite having a desire to pursue politics, Morris also dreamed of being on Wall Street. As young as an elementary school student, he was always in amazement of the Chicago Skyline. His late Grandmother stated that you will be at the top of one of those buildings, just keep working.

When asked about the switch to Financial Management, Morris stated, “It is still in alignment with my goal. I am helping individuals make the money work for them so they don’t have to work for the money and to live a more purposeful lifer. I assist with legacy planning so that families can grieve without money being an issue. Financial Management is servitude that adds value to one’s life.”

“I am blessed to have phenomenal women around me that include my Mother who worked multiple jobs as a single-mother and encouraged me to get my feet moving when I returned to the city just before the COVID-19 Pandemic. I found my way through factory work which helped reinforce the lessons of humility and value. My uncles instilled the value of hard work. I have been surrounded by a network of positive influences.”

When asked about what’s next for Romeo Morris? “I want to follow God’s orders as I inspire and motivate others through service. My major goal is to buy my Mom a house.”
