National Heart Month Recognized at Local Churches When: February 16 & 17, 2019

Dr. Doris Williams along with Phyllis Bragg, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority President, encouraged members of Grace United Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Guy Willis, to wear red in recognition of National Heart Month.

Nursing sorority members Jernice Watson, Terri Farr, and Tamela Guyton provided blood pressure screenings and educational handouts immediately after the Sunday church service. “We had a very good turnout and church members looked [wonderful] in their red,” Bragg said.

Next month, for kidney awareness, the nursing sorority will be on hand at Grace United Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 Phenie Street, to provide education on kidney disease, distribute handouts, and answer questions.

The day before, Chi Eta Phi was also on hand at Gomez Temple, pastored by Reverend Moore, for their annual Looking for Love Conference.  Tyra Watson (Chi Eta Phi) presented on heart disease and engaged the audience.  After the presentation, Chi Eta Phi members Bragg, Farr, Watson, and Linda Gray provided blood pressure screenings to the attendees resulting in, according to sorority president, “another great turnout.”
