“We’re kind of a quiet bunch,” said Pastor Malcom Riley about Abiding Faith Ministries’ everyday presence in the community.  The church resides at 1525 Oxford Street, next to Tygeron Graphics and across from the Euell Wilson Center; it doesn’t jump out at you and kind of blends into the world around it.

For the fourth year, though, Abiding Faith held their Bless This Block community event, from Noon to 4 p.m., shutting down the street in front of it for games, moonwalk-playing, praise dancing, singing and vendor-perusing. It’s always a good response, the pastor said, and “a lot of it is discovery” when it comes to the attendees who swung through after running across it.  Shutting down the street and making a joyful noise (with singing and laughter) is to build community pride, according to Pastor Riley.  “We are here to galvanize community against the violence,” he said into the mic, so the block and beyond could hear.
