In 1967, business owner Louis Dinwiddie put together a golf tournament on Father’s Day weekend at the Foster Park Golf Course and donated the proceeds to a local charity. The 2018 edition of the tournament, the 51st in the tournament’s history, was played once again during Father’s Day weekend and held at Foster Park. This year, the proceeds went to the McMillen Recreation Center for their children’s computer programming initiatives. The 44 participating golfers were divided into five separate categories; winners in each group were awarded trophies.
Councilman Glynn Hines, who has hosted the last 12 years, kept the proceedings running smoothly. In addition to the trophies awarded, a large wooden fork was given to the golfer with the highest score. The fork was first presented to Wayne Kelly; the decision was later revised and the symbolic trophy was given to C.C. Fullove who it seemed wanted no parts of it.
The next golfing outing, the Par-Tee Scholarship Golf Tournament, drops August 25-26, 2018 at the Brookwood Golf Course in Fort Wayne. Last year, the highly successful tournament donated to 21 scholarships for local college bound students. For more info, vist the Par-Tee Golf Club’s website: www.ParTeeFortWayne.com.
