Annual Initiative Highlights the Impact of Menthol and Flavored Tobacco on Black Communities

WHAT:

Faith leaders, health advocates, and communities across the country will unite for No Menthol Sunday on May 18, 2025, a national observance that encourages people to protect their health and take a stand against the tobacco industry’s harmful targeting of African American communities with menthol-flavored tobacco products.

No Menthol Sunday, organized by The Center for Black Health & Equity, is an annual opportunity for churches and community groups to educate, empower, and advocate for change through worship, health messages, and action. This year’s theme is “Clear the Way”. Together, we can clear the way for optimal health.

WHEN: Sunday, May 18, 2025

WHERE: Local participating churches

WHO: Faith-based organizations will provide resources for their congregations to promote tobacco-free living and encourage quitting menthol and all tobacco products.

WHY: Menthol cigarettes make it easier to start and harder to quit smoking. The tobacco industry has aggressively marketed menthol products to African American communities for decades. No Menthol Sunday empowers individuals to quit tobacco and calls for policy change to end the sale of flavored tobacco products.
