Empower Your Health: Knockout Diabetes with at The Dream Center

Hi there! It’s Kelley from Inspired Nutrition by Kelley here, bringing you a monthly dose of health, hope, and hearty advice. This November, in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month, I invite you to join our community at "Knockout Diabetes," a transformative event dedicated to tackling this condition head-on.

Save the Date: Join us on November 14, from 2 to 6 PM at the Dream Center, 1615 E. Wallace, Fort Wayne, IN 46803, for an afternoon of empowering education, delicious food samples, and fun activities – yes, even boxing against a giant sugar cube to symbolize our fight against diabetes!

What are the numbers?

1. Diabetes Prevalence Comparison (15% more common in Southeast Side): Diabetes poses a major health threat, with the incidence rate being 15% higher in Southeast adults than elsewhere in the city, marking a critical public health concern and highlighting the need for targeted interventions.

2 Overweight Population Statistic (70% at risk): Over 70% of Allen County's adults are overweight, a sobering statistic that surpasses state averages and amplifies the urgency for community-wide health and nutrition initiatives.

3. Food Insecurity (1 in 5 kids): Allen County confronts a pressing issue of food insecurity, with 1 in 5 children affected, an unsettling figure that underscores the link between economic status, diet quality, and the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes.

Fiber: A Cornerstone for Healthy Eating:

Fiber plays a crucial role in managing and preventing diabetes, helping to regulate blood sugar levels and supporting digestive health. Here are a few high fiber meals to get you started:

1. Savory Bean Stew: A simple, affordable dish high in fiber and protein, using canned beans, diced tomatoes, and your choice of greens.

2. Oat & Berry Breakfast Bowls: Start your day with a powerhouse of fiber from oats, flaxseeds, and a bounty of berries.

3. Stir-Fry Victory: A vibrant mix of fresh or frozen vegetables sautéed with garlic and ginger, served over brown rice – a fiber champion.
