Arthritis is the common layman’s term for osteoarthritis. Arthritis occurs when the cartilage which cushions the joints gradually breaks down. When this cartilage wears down bones rub against each other. This bone to bone contact causes damage and pain. The main symptom of arthritis is pain in the affected joint. However, decreased range of motion in the joint can often occur as well.
Collagen is the main component of cartilage. Therefore, an effective approach to avoid and/or treat arthritis is through the augmentation of the production of collagen. Collagen production can be most effectively stimulated by the ingestion of collagen peptides. Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which in turn, form proteins. Any complete protein can provide the building blocks for collagen, however, intuitively, ingestion of collagen peptides sets the stage for the most efficient production of collagen.
