Genesis Outreach Inc. Presents A Raisin in the Sun at Purdue Fort Wayne Studio Theatre

October 4–12, 2025
A Landmark Return After 25 Years

Fort Wayne, IN — Genesis Outreach Inc. proudly announces its production of Lorraine Hansberry’s groundbreaking drama A Raisin in the Sun, running October 4–12, 2025 at Purdue Fort Wayne’s Studio Theatre. This marks the first staging of the iconic, TONY Award-winning play in Fort Wayne in 25 years, since its last acclaimed production by the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre in 2000.

In a unique full-circle moment, three veteran actors from the 2000 Civic production return to the stage: Terra Brantley—EMMY Award-winning news anchor and beloved radio personality—who once played Ruth Younger, now returns as the sharp-tongued neighbor, Mrs. Johnson.

Her husband, Tony McCarroll, who originally played Ruth’s husband, reprises his commitment to the story as Bobo.

Keristen Baker, regionally renowned B96.3 morning show host, comedian, and entertainment promoter, transitions from his former role as Joseph Asagai to take on the powerhouse lead as Walter Lee Younger.

The production also features a dynamic trio of leading ladies:

Rhea Edmonds, former Journal Gazette editor, as the indomitable family matriarch, Lena Younger (“Mama”)

Tamarah Brownlee as Ruth Younger

Timya Townsend as Beneatha Younger

Completing the cast are: Kibwe Cooper (Joseph Asagai), James Hunt (George Murchison), Rodney Walker Jr. (Travis Younger), and Caleb Curtis as Karl Lindner, “The Man.”

Directed and produced by Albert T. Brownlee, this revival promises to breathe fresh life into Hansberry’s enduring tale of family, resilience, and the struggle for a better tomorrow. Brownlee shares:

“This heartwarming, emotional drama about life, loss, and lessons learned will resonate with audiences of all ages. We’re thrilled to introduce a new generation of theatergoers to this timeless classic while offering longtime fans a bold, revitalized look at one of the most important plays in American history.”

First produced on Broadway in 1959, A Raisin in the Sun broke barriers as the first play by an African American woman to be staged on Broadway. It continues to ask urgent, universal questions: What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun—or explode?
