Indiana University Health is now the latest health care provider to open an operation in southeast Fort Wayne. The clinic opened on Monday and is located in Southgate Plaza. It is a primary care facility that will include virtual visits and X-ray.

IU Health’s move comes two months after Parkview Health announced that its newly created Alliance Health Center would open an independent clinic in the Lafayette Medical Center, 2700 Lafayette St. The center is governed by its own community-based board.

Last month, Neighborhood Health, a long-time provider of health, vision, dental and mental health services in southeast Fort Wayne, announced that they will open a new healthcare center at the L.C. Ward building on Oxford Street. Neighborhood Health, a federally qualified health center, also has a clinic at 3350 E. Paulding Rd.

The boom in health care providers in southeast Fort Wayne is auspicious for those living in the 46806 Zip Code, which is a federally designated health professional shortage area.

“We are excited about the continued expansion of IU Health in Fort Wayne,” said Brian Bauer, president, IU Health Fort Wayne. “Opening this office is another step forward in our commitment to provide excellent health care to our community.”

Hector Perez, MD and Cynthia L. Vanderbosch, MD, will offer their services at the facility. Both providers specialize in family medicine.

“I applaud this quality healthcare investment into Southeast Fort Wayne, meaning that residents will have more ready access to primary care physicians and services,” councilwoman Sharon Tucker is quoted in a statement to the media.

“IU Health is taking a good first step in partnering with the Southeast quadrant with this new office and facilities.

Over the last few years, IU Health has made an aggressive push into the Fort Wayne market, which now includes four primary care and three urgent care centers. Last month, IU Heath Fort Wayne President Brian Bauer told WANE 15 that its campus near Lower Huntington Road and I69 was showing “in the initial processes of prepping the site.” The campus will be located on 135 acres near the intersection’s northwest corner.
