New Voices from the Old West Speak Out in Weatherford’s New Books Blessing From The Four Winds and its sequel, Smoke On The Wind

Syvila Weatherford
Escapades of a Young Black Cowboy who kidnaps a Native American Girl featuring a multicultural cast overcoming prejudices, hardships, and defying the odds to succeed in America.
In the late 19th-century American West, Black men comprised a quarter of cattle workers and played crucial roles such as Buffalo Soldiers maintaining order in the Indian Territory and across the vast Western frontier, yet both groups were largely omitted from cowboy folklore. Weatherford highlights their significant but often unrecognized contributions.
If Dances With Wolves were merged with Lonesome Dove and mixed with “Days of Our Lives” in the skilled hands of Syvila Weatherford, we would have Smoke On The Wind in all its glory. Weatherford takes us into a world of love and respect, violence and bloodshed, bravery and cowardice, and romance and sensitivity, as only fine story telling can do. .. . – Five Star Review by Tom Gauthier for Readers’ Favorite
Syvila Weatherford, a Los Angeles native educated in Compton and graduated from M.I.T., began her career as a systems and computer engineer, later moved into patent law, and eventually became an author. Drawing on her engineering and legal backgrounds, she writes stories that entertain and inform. Her books, Blessings From The Four Winds and Smoke On The Wind, are for the adult reader, and explore forbidden love, race relations, and ingenious survival tactics in those lawless times.
Blessings From The Four Winds, inspired by the life of Weatherford’s great grandfather, tells the story of a young Black cowboy who loses his heart to a Native American girl. Its sequel, Smoke on the Wind, continues the storyline as the cowboy encounters people from diverse backgrounds during his travels, gains rich life experiences, before he joins the desperate race with others in the government-organized Oklahoma Land Run of 1889.
