UNSCRIPTED: “Cedric The Entertainer” Has Spin-off Series Cancelled!

Now before you say anything about this piece just know that I’m trying to spread my wings (a little) and write about something other than sports! Am I allowed to diversify my portfolio a bit?? Thank you! (lol) I was just scouring the internet looking at things and this came across-the-board to me as something that was “interesting” As many of you know Cedric The Entertainer currently has a hit TV show entitled:
The Neighborhood in which he plays Calvin, an automotive shop owner married to (former Martin TV show star) Tichina Arnold, and they are currently in their 8th (and final) season on CBS Monday’s at 8:00 EST. With this upcoming season being the final one for this show, Cedric wanted to use this platform to pilot a new show (which has yet to be titled) that would feature the 2 young men that play Cedric’s sons on The Neighborhood, Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears) but this idea was quickly squashed, and the idea not picked up by CBS to pilot. I, for one, was not disappointed! Why? I just don’t think that these guys have enough weight (or humor) to carry their own show on a weekly basis! Now you can booo me all you want, but as a huge Cedric fan, I don’t want to see his name attached to something that will not give him his proper’s (RESPECT for those of you that aren’t “old school” like myself)! He is one of the funniest comedians out there and I want him to remain in the Mount Rushmore discussion of comedians being mentioned as one of the BEST to ever do it!
Cedric was/is extremely disappointed that CBS has made the decision not to pilot this new show simply (because ratings for HIS current show have dropped considerably in the past 2 seasons and they just didn’t want to take a chance at this point). Do you agree or disagree with this decision? The news was also disappointing to fans of Cedric, and he shared that they should channel their frustrations by writing to the network! Now, we’ll see how that goes, but Cedric also shared that he understood “it’s a challenging time in television right now as networks are tightening their belts-n-budgets and opting not to spend as much money especially on piloting new shows.”
Had the spinoff series gotten picked up it would have focused on the brothers starting their new life alongside new cast members. What is interesting is that even though this particular spin-off isn’t happening, another offshoot of The Neighborhood is moving forward starring super funny man Tracy Morgan (who plays Calvin’s wealthy brother in Neighborhood). The show will be entitled Crutch in which Morgan will play Calvin’s cousin (a man named Francois “Frank Crutchfield” nicknamed Crutch by his friends and family. Now, they’ve already filmed 8 episodes of this sitcom and of course Cedric, Tichina, and Dave from The Neighborhood will all make at least one appearance so let’s sit back and enjoy season 8 of The Neighborhood. Cedric promises “If this is going to be the FINAL season of Neighborhood I’m definitely going to work to bring Steve Harvey onto the show (at least once) as well as Martin Lawrence, Kat Demmings, (2 Broke Girls) and Terry Crews among others!” Sounds like The Neighborhood is going out with a bang which is what we’d expect from a talent like Cedric The Entertainer! Also (in unrelated news) I do want to add that Cedric and Anthony Anderson have gone into the restaurant business and will be opening restaurants soon so watch out for those as well. Again, I was just SCOURING the internet and this all came up...wow!
