Meet Magistrate Lori K. Morgan

Allen Superior Court Magistrate Lori K. Morgan is a candidate to fill the judicial vacancy created by the impending retirement of the Honorable Nancy Eschoff Boyer, a long-time judge and the first woman jurist in Allen County. Judge Boyer will retire in June of this year after nearly 30 years of service.

In announcing her retirement, Judge Boyer stated, “All I have ever wanted to do was make a difference. Being a judge allowed me to do that in ways I never imagined.” Judge Boyer is a skilled and admired jurist, and she succeeded in making a positive difference in the lives of the people in Allen County, Indiana.

Lori Morgan, the only female and African American judicial officer in Allen County history, hopes to continue the good work of Judge Boyer by filling the vacancy her retirement creates. Magistrate Morgan would bring to the position years of experience, dedicated service, and thoughtful decision making. She recognizes the job will be a big one but believes that perseverance and motivation are keys to success.

Magistrate Morgan was appointed to the Allen Superior Court Family Relations Division in 1995. She was Allen County’s first female and African American judicial officer. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree from the University of Iowa. In the Family Relations Division, Magistrate Morgan hears divorce and family law matters, as well as Child in Need of Services and adoption cases.

She is a former member and chair of the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education, as well as a former member of the Juvenile Benchbook Committee and Juvenile Justice Improvement Committees of the Indiana Judicial Conference, and currently serves on the Domestic Relations Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference. Magistrate Morgan is a member of the Indiana Judges Association, National Association of Women Judges, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, Allen County Bar Association and Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Magistrate Morgan is a 2005 graduate of the Indiana Judicial College and a 2009 graduate of the Indiana Graduate Program for Judges.

In 2005, she received the 21 Alive Women in Leadership Award and, in 2009, she was honored by the Fort Wayne Urban League for outstanding service to Fort Wayne in the area of justice for the families and children and by ITT Technical Institute for her service to the community and for inspiring others. She is a founder of the Allen Superior Court’s SCORE project, which recognizes the achievements of children adjudicated to be Children in Need of Services and who have made progress in their lives. Magistrate Morgan is active in the Fort Wayne community, both in her private life and as a representative of the Allen County judiciary.
In September of 2019, Magistrate Morgan was recognized by the Indiana Judicial Conference for her 24 years of service.
